How design affects perception and community building on Twitter and Instagram
Today, social media is a big part of our lifestyle. Research shows that most social media users have profiles on multiple social media platforms simultaneously for their unique features. Is there a difference in the way people behave on different social media platforms? Does the design of a social media platform ultimately affect community building for its users?
This study investigates the difference in user interaction on two popular social media platforms- Twitter and Instagram. Users were interviewed about their online behaviours and habits. Qualitative evidence was found that both platforms are perceived differently by the users. Thematic analysis was used to find patterns in user behaviour.

Designing an interactive prototype for volunteering opportunities in York
This study was performed for an Open Assessment of the module User-Centred Design (UCDE) in the Department of Computer Science at the University of York. Based on the given brief, the City of York Council has requested an app that will provide York residents with an overview of the range of activities they can undertake (for example, leaf cleaning, or being a young people’s mentor) and keep a record of them. In this study, we conducted research on volunteering opportunities available to the local community in York, designed an interactive system and evaluated it. The task was performed by a group of 5 students.
